(Detroit) -- The Detroit Tigers had a rest yesterday but are gearing up to start a three game series at home tonight against the Cleveland Indians. The Tigers are coming off a three game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks at Comerica Park. Two games ended with Tiger home runs.

(Undated) – St. Louis had its lead in the NL Central shaved to four and a-half games over Cincinnati and the Chicago Cubs. Jack Wilson stroked a triple in the bottom of the ninth before scoring on a throwing error on the same play, allowing Pittsburgh to beat the Cards 2-1.

(Undated) – Cincinnati first baseman Sean Casey is day to day with a strained right calf. Casey was injured in Sunday's game against Pittsburgh.

(Undated) – Third baseman Wes Helms was activated from Milwaukee's 15 day disabled list. He missed over a month with a right knee injury.

(Gaylord) -- Golfer Fred Couples says he thinks whoever wins the next hole in the Par Three shootout likely will win the event. The match up in Gaylord resumes today, with much of the
money getting carried over from yesterday's play. The 10th hole is worth $200,000.

(Acme) -- Former Michigan Open champion JR Roth has the lead in this year's Michigan Open. Roth shot a 5 under 67 yesterday to take the lead. Play resumes today in Acme, and runs through Thursday.

(Indianapolis) -- Brandon Knutson of South Bend and Chris Clemens of Beech Grove shot 6 under par 66 to share the first round lead in the Indiana Amateur golf tournament. Defending champion Jeff Overton of Evansville was two strokes behind at 68 on the par 72 Brickyard Crossing Golf Course in Indianapolis.

(Indianapolis) -- Indiana Pacers president Larry Bird and coach Rick Carlisle plan to put first-round draft pick David Harrison through a workout to start getting him ready for the NBA. Harrison was the last pick in the first round of last week's draft. The seven foot, 285 pound center from Colorado
averaged 17 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots a game last season.

(Albion) -- Longtime coach Morley Fraser has died of leukemia. He was 82. The World War Two veteran coached high school football and track in Newberry and Lansing before coaching football and baseball at Albion. He won 11 MIAA championships in 18 years at the college.
